Application
High-volume Hydrogen for Green Steel
European steel industry working to reduce CO2 output by using hydrogen
- 1 ton of steel production causes 1.83 tons of CO2 emissions
- Hydrogen would replace coke (refined coal) as fuel and reducing agent in blast furnace with zero CO2 emissions
- Replacing coke with hydrogen for steel production would create an enormous need for on-site hydrogen production at steelmaking facilities
- Investment and operating cost for Zn2H2 hydrogen generator modules will be substantially lower than electrolyzers
- Highly scalable (just add more generator modules) to utilize whatever power input is available
